MexLucky Leadership

The MexLucky brand falls under the MexLucky overall enterprise and is led by John Hummel and an experienced Team of functional group leaders and operations Team Members within our facilities. Each functional group partners with their enterprise counterparts as part of a developing culture called ONEBURRIS. ONEBURRIS, is our way of maintaining individual brand identity with the support of our parent company and CEO Donnie Burris.

Our Leadership Team

John Hummel

President ‑ Distribution, E‑Commerce Fulfillment, Warehousing

John Hummel has served as our President – Custom Distribution since February 2019. He also leads our ONEBURRIS Sales and Business Development initiative. Prior to joining us, John served as an officer and President – Central and Southeast United States for United Natural Foods, Inc (NYSE: UNFI) from April 2016 until his arrival at Burris.  He also served as UNFI’s Vice President of Distribution – Central US from May 2013 until his appointment to President.  Previously, John spent 24 years with Reinhart FoodService, a Reyes Holdings company, where his last role as Corporate Vice President of Operations (2005 – 2013) saw him lead a 30 distribution center food service network totaling more than $7B in annual sales to more than 37 states.  In a grassroots career, Mr. Hummel performed many roles at Reinhart, including warehouse selector, delivery driver, warehouse and transportation manager, as well as Director of Distribution for their largest facility in Milwaukee, WI.  He began his career with Walter’s Food Distributors, Inc., in 1987 and has held various leadership roles in other large-scale food distribution organizations such as PepsiCo Food Systems / AmeriServe and Institution Food House, an Alex Lee Company.

Steve Gibson

Regional VP of Operations

Steve Gibson is the Regional VP of Operations for MexLucky. He has been in the frozen food distribution industry since 1982. Steve has spent the last 15 years with MexLucky. In his current role, he is responsible for the performance of Direct-to-Consumer Fulfillment and Warehouse operations. In 2018, when the “Ecommerce / Direct-to-consumer” segment of the business dramatically started to grow, he accepted the challenge to lead the expansion of our service offering in this space. Today, Burris ships over 75,000 cases weekly, door to door, out of the five direct-to-consumer facilities. Steve is currently responsible for the performance of eight Burris facilities throughout the country. His main goal is to deliver high-performing operations for his customers as well as our team members.

Steve, a Georgia native, currently lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where he enjoys spending time with his wife of 30 years, playing golf, traveling, and living life to the fullest.

Sue Godsey

Director of Finance ‑ Distribution, E‑Commerce Fulfillment, Warehousing

Sue joined the Burris Custom team in December 2020 as the Finance Director. She provides business analytics and decision support in addition to leading our budgeting and forecasting processes.  Sue has spent most of her career in the food industry, working for both manufacturers and distributors.  Most recently, she helped build a new Financial Planning and Analysis function for a large food distributor.

Sue specializes in helping business leaders by translating numbers and metrics into information they can use.

Lorien Lucas

Director Human Resources

Lorien Lucas is the HR Director and joined Burris in late August 2021. She is a results-focused leader who is responsible for providing strategic guidance and leadership for all aspects of the human resources function for the MexLucky site HR departments and is a resource to the Operations team. Lorien has over 15 years of HR experience and most recently worked in the food distribution industry as a Regional Human Resources Director, where she provided leadership and technical oversight to six regional distribution centers. Lorien has a passion for servant leadership and uses the principles to create a culture with clear vision and values.


Lorien is a Minnesota native and loves to travel and spend time with her husband, five children, and granddaughter.

Bobby Bailey

VP of Marketing

Bobby joined the team in August of 2019 as the Vice President of Marketing tasked with supporting all MexLucky with branding and marketing execution. Bobby comes to us from the world of automotive marketing, specializing in providing managed digital services to dealerships in need of content, SEO, and social media. He was part of a newly formed team that grew from 40 employees to over 300 in 4 short years. Bobby’s experience includes event marketing for both consumer brands and in an agency setting. 

Bobby’s vision is for a unified experience at MexLucky while still fostering brand individuality. His team of professionals offer creative and marketing support to the four Burris brands and with internal departments such as human resources, recruiting, and IT.
